My final project is titled "Block" and comments on writer's block and the (futile) search for inspiration.
The animation opens with a black screen. We hear footsteps approach and a man opens the door to the cabinet the camera is in. There is a large box of light bulbs. The man grabs one, then shuts the cabinet door.
We cut to a high angle of the man walking slowly down a large, dark hallway, his footsteps creating monstrous echos. We continue watching him walk until he approaches a closed door; light spills out from its frame. The door opens to reveal a blinding light as we enter the room.
Slowly the light fades and we are able to see. The man is in a large room with a single desk covered in papers, a high-backed chair, and a small step ladder. Hundreds of light bulbs hang from the ceiling, illuminating the room. The man walks over to one light bulb that has burned out. He climbs the ladder and switches the old bulb for the new one. The bulb illuminates and the man smiles.
The man sits at his desk and begins to write. Everything seems to be in place, the man is happy, the room is complete, and the creative process can begin. The camera starts tracking back as happy music swells. However, just as we're about to leave the man, a bulb directly over his head blinks and goes out. The man's head falls, his arm reaches out for the step ladder, and the screen goes blank.
For this project I will work mostly in Photoshop to create the sets and then use parenting to make the man and his props move. His house will be made up of various textures (natural, fabrics, etc) that I will photograph. Hopefully I will be able to create my own music for this animation (music and sound effects will play an important role since there is no talking).
